New Dates Announced for the Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games
The Arctic Winter Games International Committee (AWGIC) has announced that the Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games will take place from January 29 to February 4, 2023.
"The Host Society is excited to welcome the Circumpolar North in 2023 as we continue to serve the community and share the spirit of the Games," said Melissa Blake, co-chair of the Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games. "We are confident in the planning that has taken place thus far and look forward to providing a safe world-class experience here in Wood Buffalo. We would like to recognize the continued commitment the Arctic Winter Games International Committee has displayed to our region. It will indeed be our time to shine with the support of our partners, volunteers and our community."
Originally scheduled to take place in March 2022, this change in date is being called a planned and proactive response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AWGIC has been working in collaboration with the Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games Host Society and participating contingents to secure new dates for the host community.
The rescheduled dates for the Arctic Winter Games in Wood Buffalo will not affect the current bid cycle for the Matanuska Susitna Borough, Alaskan2024 Arctic Winter Games bid.
