Get Ready for the Giants in Our Community

(0 votes)

Fort McMurray is a buzz with baseball excitement as the brand-new Fort McMurray Giants baseball club takes to the field for their inaugural season in May.

Believing in being a part of the community and helping out as much as possible, the Giants are proud to be part of not just the business community, but the social-profit community as well. Led by local Dutche Iannetti, and joined by longtime baseball loyalists Seven Avila and Blair Kubicek, this passionate group of community supporters are proud to see the Fort McMurray Giants as the lead tenant at the Shell Place Baseball Stadium and to work with the team at MacDonald Island Park.

With their home-opener on May 27th, the Giants have already established themselves as active members of the community, rooted in the belief that community engagement is the key to the growth and success of the organization.

The Fort McMurray Giants currently support Keyano College Foundation, the Northern Lights Health Foundation, Family Crisis Society, Fort McMurray Irish Dance Group, and local firefighter, Bo Cooper and are actively working to ensure that they are more than just a baseball team, but a community team player too.

In addition to helping these organizations within the community, the Giants are also reaching the young people within our region with their Junior Giants program.

The Fort McMurray Junior Giants Program invites kids between the ages of six and 13 to apply for a chance to be selected as a Junior Giant. Nine young individuals will be selected for each home game to meet the players in the clubhouse lounge before each game, have a team picture taken, participate in the pre-game warm up, have their names announced over the PA system, receive recognition on the program insert, and be on the field for the singing of the national anthem.

Junior Giants will also receive an official Junior Giants t-shirt and an autographed team baseball. Each Junior Giant will also receive a ticket for a parent or guardian to sit in the preferred seating section right behind home plate!  With a limit on the number of Junior Giants, young fans are encouraged to sign-up online as soon as they can at www.fortmcmurraygiants.ca.

This commitment to the community and dedication to raising up future baseball players, and a strong partnership with the Fort McMurray Minor Baseball Association, together with some exciting pre-season preparations mean Shell Place will definitely be the place to be this summer when the Giants are on the field!

With a roster full of high-end talent, a fan-base that is already excited for this first-ever season, and a sheer love of the game, it's no surprise we've got such amazing Giants in our community!

Make sure to get your seats before they are all gone at the Shell Place Box Office and of course there are also volunteer opportunities available; visit fortmcmurraygiants.ca for more information.  Go Giants Go!
